Three tips to make your resume standout!

Let us be honest, Covid has dramatically changed our employment landscape.  Employees are working from home and some prefer remote positions with limited office time.  With an increase of those seeking alternative employment, it is important your resume grabs a potential employer’s attention.

Following are some quick tips to getting your resume reviewed:

1)     If you live in a large metropolitan area, do not list your zip code!  Despite working from home, sometimes employers assume a potential commute would be too far and do not respond accordingly.  In the Nashville Area, listing your City/Zip Code can mean Employers will chose to not respond to applications as they have other resumes that are “closer” to the office.

2)     Be sure to demonstrate your flexibility.  If you are currently covering multiple areas, be sure to list that information.  More and more, employers need people that are comfortable doing varying tasks.  This could not be more true in the pandemic, flexibility of employees and their ability to take on more duties are truly a stand-out ability!

3)     We say this often but focus on your accomplishments.  Your words can tell a story…”increased revenue by…” or “reduced down-time by…”.  Avoid listing your duties on your resume.  It can send a message that you are capable of certain things but may not have a strong business acumen.  Listing your accomplishments (demonstrating how your daily duties contributed to the company’s bottom line) immediate changes how your resume is received!

As the world becomes more remote, candidates need to ensure their resumes are marketing themselves in the best way!  Demonstrating your flexibility, contribution to the business success, and avoiding placing yourself in a niche can make you a standout!  In today’s climate, these 3 tips will help ensure your resume is noticed!
